Fine Thread vs. Coarse Thread Set Screws

Last Updated: Jun 05, 2015 04:08PM EDT
Fine pitch Weldon screws that have a larger tensile stress area and, therefore, have a higher tensile strength than the coarse threads. For example a 5/8-18 thread set screw has 38.9% greater tensile strength area than a 5/8-11, or to put it simply a fine pitch screw has nearly 40% more teeth holding the endmill than its coarse thread counterpart.
